Memtest86 news
Commercial support for Memtest86!
BradyTech Inc. is now providing code development and value added services
built around Memtest86.com. The initial BradyTech offering adds a
comprehensive user guide that is included with the Memtest86 CD-Rom.
A graphical Windows installer will soon be added making creation of
bootable media under Windows much simpler. With the backing of BradyTech
regular releases and major code enhancements are planned.
Memtest86 Release 3.4 is now available
The 3.4 release includes:
- A new error summary display that provides useful troubleshooting
information and analysis of error validity.
- Support for additional chipsets. (from Memtest86+ v1.70).
- Additions and corrections for CPU detection.
- Support for memory module information reporting.
- Misc bug fixes.
Calling All Developers!
A number of additions are planned for the Memtest86 diagnostic and
also for the Memtest86 website. We need your help! Please contact us about
contributing to the Memtest86 community and earn a little cash to boot.
Listed below are a few of the planned projects.
- Support for memory testing using multiple CPUs. Code is needed to
detect, select, park and start CPUs. In addition new methods need to be
created for effective memory testing using multiple CPUs.
- Native 64 bit support with 64 patterns. With 64 CPUs becoming common
a native 64 version of Memtest86 is needed. Test algorithms need to be
updated to use 64 and 128 bit patterns. A simple flat memory model can
now be used that will eliminate a great deal of complexity and add
efficiency.
- Writing of failure information to a floppy disk, or USB flash drive.
Currently there is no way to capture error information from Memtest86.
Stand alone disk drivers need to be created (or ported) along with designing
methods for capturing information.
- Pre-launch customization of all Memtest86 parameters. A GUI
interface allows users to create a customized Memtest86 image that starts
with customized options and test sequences. A key feature would be to
allow the test sequence to be customized to be as quick or thorough as
desired. Both Windows and Linux configuration GUIs would be provided.
- Create and maintain a Memtest86 pass/fail database. With a simple
web based entry form Memtest86 users could enter their testing results. This
information would be valuable in finding memory reliability trends across
Manufacturers and models. The data would be useful for problem diagnosis,
product selection, documenting product deficiencies and of course improving
the quality of Memtest86. Expertise is needed to create an SQL database and
provide web based interfaces for entry and searching. With more than 200K
visitors per month to Memtest86.com this database would quickly become very
large.
- Create a overclockers "Hall of Fame" focusing on top memory bandwidth.
This would create a friendly competition to squeeze out maximum memory
performance. By including manufacturer and model number details in the
list this would become a valuable resource for overclockers looking to find
hardware that overclocks effectively.
- A valuable companion to Memtest86 would be a standalone disk diagnostic
and sanitizer. Using BIOS access routines a simple test could be created
determine basic functionality. In addition this tool would be valuable for
destroying all data on disks to protect data and to insure that all viruses
and old software are completely removed.
